Linda Alsop, the Gifted & Talented Math Teacher at Copper Hill School, has been selected as the Teacher of the Year for 2009-2010 in the Flemington-Raritan Regional School District. With nearly 30 years of experience, Mrs. Alsop has taught in the district for the last 20 years, both as an elementary classroom teacher and as a specialized math instructor. She also has taught at East Amwell School; Roberts School in New Providence; and at Tutu Elementary School in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Mrs. Alsop has earned a Master's degree in Math Foundations from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor's degree from The College of New Jersey. She received an Early Childhood Certification from TCNJ and has completed graduate courses at Rutgers University, TCNJ, Monmouth University and Delaware Valley College.

"I feel children are best reached when educators celebrate their strengths as they develop self-confidence, and teach them that their confusions are not weaknesses, but rather learning opportunities.

Effort, diligence, and enthusiasm for learning are emphasized in a rich learning environment. A good lesson is filled with lots of questions, the sharing of thinking strategies, and a dash of humor.

As a math teacher, I am reminded that the things that count the most -- children's self esteem and love of learning -- aren't measured by test scores. By treating each child respectfully and planning appropriate, challenging activities, children are motivated to love math and the hard work it takes to achieve success"
